Members of the European Parliament demand an EU-wide action plan with ambitious and achievable purposes and timelines to end the use of animals in research and testing. The plan that members of the parliament deem appropriate includes reducing, refining, and replacing procedures on live animals for scientific objectives, as soon as it is scientifically possible and without lowering the level of protection for human health and the environment.<\/p>\n

Sufficient medium- and long-term funding has been demanded by the EU Parliament to certify the fast development, validation, and introduction of alternative testing methods. It has been also stated that scientists, researchers, and technicians must be instructed in using advanced non-animal models and in sharing best practices.<\/p>\n

It has been recognized by the parliament that previous animal testing has led to research and medical progress, such as vaccines, including COVID-19 vaccines, and further, there are still cases where that animal tastings are needed to acquire scientific knowledge for certain diseases due to the current unavailability of non-animal methods. It has been outlined that these testing methods shall only be used where conditions are optimized to reduce pain, distress, and suffering and protect the welfare of the animals concerned.<\/p>\n

The resolution \u201con plans and actions to accelerate the transition to innovation without the use of animals in research, regulatory testing and education\u201d was adopted with 667 votes to 4.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
