OBTAINING RESIDENT PERMIT OF GREECE ACCORDING TO FINANCIAL ABILITY

KARIMI LAW FIRM AND ITS ASSOCIATES GREEK LAWYERS APPLY FOR RESIDENCY FOR THOSE INTERESTED TO IMMIGRATE TO GREECE

According to Greek law, residence permits can be granted also to “financially independent individuals”. As a result, third-country nationals may fall within the provisions of the Code provided they have sufficient resources and a stable annual income level for covering their living costs.

The residence permit of this category has a duration of two years and can be renewed every three years; however, this kind of permit does not allow access to the labor market.

According to the applicable ministerial decree, sufficient resources are defined to a minimum of two thousand euros (2,000€) per month. In case a third-country national is accompanied by their family members, this amount increases by 20% for his wife/her husband and by 15% for every child. Sufficiency of funds can be evidenced by pension to which the applicant is eligible in his country, bank account or other documentation showing that there are sufficient financial sources of the applicant, lawfully derived, able to cover living costs.

According to Greek regulation, the residence permit is granted for a specific reason and this cannot be changed. However, and by way of exception, a third country citizen who already lawfully lives in Greece under a residence permit as a financially independent individual could change the reason of its residence permit and be granted a five-year residence permit, accompanied by renewal right, in case of a real estate property purchase of a value of at least 250,000€.
